Power of suggestion

At the risk of abandoning what I hope is my usually diplomatic tone, what the hell is this.

Maybe just what it says: there are concerns from various viewpoints in the church. I had a phone call from a very liberal lady recently, expressing her concern that not enough is being done to apprehend the person who did it. Others may well wonder whether police are looking in the right places, I don't know. "Various viewpoints" may just mean that.

I would like to extend the benefit of the doubt, Anonymous, but I'm afraid I'm convinced the post has a much more insidious purpose. The use of the words "alleged" and "curiosity"--along with the context of the tone other posts in the blog in question take--leave me thoroughly convinced that the intent of the post is to suggest doubt as to the veracity of the threat.

Given that there is no reason to believe that the events unfolded in any way other than we have been told, and that the victim was made to feel so unsafe as to resign her position, I find this to be an unfortunate and unloving response to tragedy.

Do you read Voices for An Open Spirit e-mail listserv? Several progressive posters there have inquired about further information.

Who else has called for more information is not relevant to the clear meaning of that particular post. Were it merely an observation that people were curious, it wouldn't be worth writing at all. But such inference is rendered unnecessary by the inclusion of the word "alleged."

Can I ask you to identify yourself, please, for the sake of better conversation?
